Lubbock ISD finalizes superintendent selection, consider 2018-19 calendar

Posted: Updated:

Lubbock ISD is beginning the new year with significant changes, trying to stay ahead of the game and the calendar year.

Trustees adopted new items affecting the school district's future elections on May 5 and finalize the official selection of Dr. Kathy Rollo as the new superintendent. Rollo will officially begin her duties as superintendent on Feb. 1 while retiring Superintendent Berhl Robertson will serve as special assistant.

"I approached the board and said, you know it would probably be better for her to start before July 1, because there is a lot of stuff that happens during the spring time and that's budget, personnel, staffing and those are the big items and if you have not been through that you know she will be a year from doing it so it will get her ahead of the game."

The board also are considering three alternative calendar drafts for the 2018-2019 school year designating more instructional days.
